Time VS. Lighting | What is the difference between morning and golden hour sessions? | Nashville Family Portrait and Wedding Photographer

As you’re looking through my family and wedding portfolio, you may notice a difference in the look of my photos.

Some are dark, some are light. Some are colder and softer, some are more vibrant and sunny.

The time of the day in which your session takes place creates different outcomes. If your session is in the morning, the light will be soft, creating a soft feel to your session.

If your session is in the evening, during the so-called “golden hour” your pictures will be exuberant, golden, and glowing.

The lighting of your session often determines the feeling of the session. Golden light sessions often have a more “Bam!” feel to them, feeling bold and fun. Softer lighting sessions will give a more light-hearted feeling, suiting a softer overall feel to the entire session.

Make sure when you schedule your session, if you have a preference, please let me know. If you’d like more golden light, it would be best to shoot after work hours. The golden hour is generally one hour before sunset.

If you’d like a soft light, creating more of an old film-type look, it would probably be best to take pictures in the morning. Weekends are available for this option.

To see the difference of lighting, I have attached two very different lighted images below.

Notice that the first image is very soft.

Notice the second image has a very different feel- very exuberant and bold.

Both images are equally gorgeous and showcase the family’s personality well.
