It's sad to say, but I have received literally 20 messages the past two weeks from spouses who's photographer has canceled on them last minute. This is SO awful and makes me so sad, as these are such important moments to you all. 

As a response to all of these happenings, I decided an article is much needed on this topic. Spouses, here's how you can be 100% sure you WILL have a photographer on your homecoming day.

Here are 3 questions you need to ask yourself before booking a homecoming photographer.

1. Does your photographer have a contract? Contracts are not just used to protect the photographer. A good contract also protects the client! This contract will ensure that the photographer cannot cancel on you last minute unless there is a dire emergency.

2. Does your photographer have back-ups? Life happens. An emergency could come up where your photographer can't come. This is why your homecoming photographer MUST guarantee you a backup. If he/she cannot be in attendance, they need to fill their spot and give you a backup of the same photographic quality. It is NOT your job to have to replace your photographer- it is theirs. 

Make sure your photographer's contract includes a clause about ensuring a backup photographer will be there if they cannot attend.

3. What does your budget mean? Budgets are totally understandable- we all have them. However, you should note that the lower your budget is, the harder it will be to find a photographer, and the higher your chances are that your photographer will cancel on you. Moreover, you will likely not be able to find a replacement photographer for the same price. Lower priced photographers are great, but MAKE SURE THEY GUARANTEE YOU A BACKUP in case they need to cancel.

Also, consider that you can afford higher priced photographers. Did you know most of them have payment plans? It can't hurt to ask.
